Obituary of Joyce McNelis

Joyce McNelis, 72, of Lumberton passed away peacefully on July 5, 2015 at Virtua Memorial Hospital in Mt. Holly. Born in Perth Amboy to the late Stephen and Anna Kurits, she was a lifelong resident of the area, living in Browns Mills and Lumberton. Joyce worked as a bus driver for both Wolfington and Garden State Transportation for many years. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hainesport and a devoted Christian. She liked helping out around the community and had a soft spot for children, as exemplified by her years working as a special needs bus aid. She enjoyed traveling, taking trips to Colorado and Alaska, visiting her son in California and Wisconsin, as well as taking cruises to Mexico and the Caribbean and motor cycle rides with Skip on their Harley. Joyce could keep a conversation going and always had fun stories to tell. She was known for her boundless generosity of spirit. Joyce was a loving wife and mother who will be deeply missed. Joyce is predeceased by her parents, her beloved husband Robert McNelis and her sister Gloria. She leaves behind her son Brian McNelis and his wife Julie of Los Angeles, CA; her 4 sisters, Dorothy, Lillian, Maryann and Beatrice; her life partner Earnest “Skip” Slaymaker and many nieces and nephews. Joyce was a devoted Grandmother of Skip’s Grandchildren Johnny, Mathew, Travis and Violet. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service for Joyce at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, located at 910 Marne Hwy, Hainesport NJ 08036, on Tuesday July 14, 2015 beginning at 11AM. Inurnment will take place later on Tuesday at Brig. General William C. Doyle Veteran’s Cemetery. All services are being held under the direction of Tilghman Funeral Home (TilghmanFH.com).
