Ruth (Tilghman) Gabel, age 84, of Bordentown passed away Monday, March 30 at the Samaritan Inpatient Hospice Center in Mount Holly. Born in Sykesville, she was raised in Bordentown and settled in Jobstown when she married and eventually moved back to Bordentown.
Ruth was a housewife raising her children and also was the bookkeeper and co-owner of Tilghman’s Used Auto Parts in Springfield Twp. with her first husband. She was active in the Bordentown Senior Citizens, a member of the Eastern Star and was a volunteer at the Masonic Home in Burlington. Ruth loved line dancing and enjoyed to travel.
Ruth was predeceased by her first husband, Joseph J. Tilghman, Jr. and by her second husband, Robert Gabel. She is survived by a son, Joseph Tilghman III and wife Joanne of Chesterfield Twp., three daughters, Karen Bohn of Bordentown, Pamela Waltz of Oveido, FL and Ingrid Meara and husband Gerard of Bordentown, a brother, Richard Robinson of Wichita Falls, TX; many grandchildren; several great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours for Ruth will be held on Thursday, April 2 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street in New Egypt (www.tilghmanfh.com). Graveside services will be on Friday morning, April 3 at the Upper Springfield Cemetery in Springfield Township. Those going to the cemetery are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:00 AM on Friday to drive to the cemetery in procession.
