Roy C. Smith, Sr., age 88, of Browns Mills passed away, Tuesday, January 20 at Aspen Hills Healthcare in Pemberton Twp. Born in Laurelton, NJ, he was a resident of Browns Mills since 1965. Roy served in the US Navy during World War II. He retired after 20 years from civil service at McGuire AFB as a Fleet Service Supervisor. After his retirement he worked as a custodian for the Pemberton Township Schools. Roy was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed watching auto racing. In his early years he raced stock cars at local race tracks and was one of the founders of the New Egypt Speedway. Roy was predeceased by his parents, Horace and Mildred (Horner) Smith and by a brother, Horace Smith, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Shirley (Bisnett) Smith; four children, Roy Smith, Jr. of Florida, Debra Levesque of Florida, Michelle Christy and husband Michael of Manning, SC and Michael Smith and wife Heather of Browns Mills; ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. A memorial service for Roy will be held on Friday, January 23 at 3:00 PM at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street, New Egypt, NJ 08533 (www.tilghmanfh.com) with calling hours from 2:00 to 3:00 PM at the funeral home.
