Thomas J. Schmidt, age 74, of New Egypt died Friday, January 8 at home surrounded by his family. Born in Long Branch, he was a resident of New Egypt for the past eight years and formerly of Browns Mills and Jackson. Tom was a veteran of the Marine Corp and drove buses and trucks for a living, most recently he was a bus driver for the Community at Concordia in Monroe Twp. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus as a 3rd Degree Knight, and a member of the Moose Lodge and the AmVets both in Jackson. He was predeceased by his parents, Anton and Rose Schmidt and by 13 brothers and sisters. Tom is survived by his wife, Claire (Soll) Schmidt; three daughters, Kelly Rose Schmidt of Florida and Kathleen Ann Schmidt and Katelyn Marie Schmidt both of New Egypt; a step-daughter, Erica Grilletto of Bordentown; two grandchildren, Anthony and Gianna Grilletto and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services and burial at the BGWCD Veterans Memorial Cemetery will be private at the convenience of the family under the direction of the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street in New Egypt (www.tilghmanfh.com).
