James J. Nash, Jr., age 84, of Cookstown passed away Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at Samaritan Hospice in Mount Holly surrounded by his family. Born in Trenton to the late James J. Nash, Sr. and Edith (Grant) Nash, Jim was a lifetime Cookstown area resident.
Before his retirement Jim was employed as a Finance Officer at Fort Dix and also served in the United States Marine Corp Reserves. Jim was very involved in the local community. He was the Past President and 30 year member of the Cookstown Vol. Fire Co., a Member of the New Hanover Board of Education for over 30 years, a Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts Troop 257, served as Administrator and Chief Financial Officer for New Hanover Township, served as the Chief of Police for New Hanover Township. He served on the Board of Directors at Metropolitan Federal Savings and Loan and New Egypt Buildings & Loan. Jim was a parishioner at the Church of the Assumption.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Jean (nee Bock) Nash; two daughters, Deborah Paone of New Egypt and Jacqueline Miller and husband Dave of Medford; three grandchildren, Kathleen Paone of New Egypt, James Miller of Medford and Emily LaHaye and husband Edward of Alexandra, VA and a sister, Evelyn Reed of Cookstown.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Jim will be held on Tuesday, September 10 at 10:00 AM at the Church of the Assumption – St. Isidore the Farmer Parish, 28 Monmouth Road, Wrightstown, NJ 08562 with burial to follow in Assumption Cemetery in New Egypt. Calling hours will be on Monday evening, September 9 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street, New Egypt, NJ 08533.
