Carol M. Newman of Wrightstown, NJ, passed away peacefully at home on July 27, 2024. Her beloved dog was sleeping by her side. She was the daughter of Richard J. and Carrie C. Moore of Flourtown, PA. She is predeceased by her parents, her sister Joy M. Hennessey, and her partner of 42 years Theodore "Junie" Bell, Jr. She is survived by her children Susan "Sue" L. Collins of Gibbsboro, NJ; John C. Newman, Jr. of Hightstown, NJ; and Sandra "Sandi" L. Newman of Arvada, CO; her grandchildren Staci Lynn (Mark) Hafer, Justin Newman, Ryan Collins (Jessica), Jonathan (Shaina) Pira, Rebecca Pitocco, Mathew Newman, and Nicholas "Nick" Newman; 7 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews plus their offspring on the Hennessey branch of the family. In addition, Carol was a stepparent to Junie Bell's children Jim (Sheryl), Ted, Sherrie (Chuck) Cumella, Randy, and Vicky (Brian) Nixon; 18 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; and 5 great-great grandchildren. Carol and her older sister Joy grew up in then rural Flourtown, Montgomery County, PA. They had a horse Sonny and Tony the Pony as well as other farm animals. Joy and her friends would ride their horses so fast that Tony would buck and unseat Carol to keep up with Sonny. In the winter, their mother would pick them up from elementary school with Tony hitched to a sleigh. Carol graduated from Springfield High School in 1956. Prior to starting her family, she worked as a bank teller. She raised her children in rural Burlington County with her then husband the late John C. Newman, first in a small house outside Jacobstown and then on a farm in Ellisdale. During the school year, Carol drove a bus for the Northern Burlington County Regional school system. However, during the summer months, she spent her time monitoring her children, her visiting nieces and nephews, and the neighborhood boys who practically lived in her house. Many hours were spent canning vegetables from the garden, making jelly from crabapples and elderberries picked by her children, and driving the truck to haul hay from the fields. Carol was often chased by a mean rooster, a gander, and once flipped off her feet by Dopey the ram. Fun days were spent with her friends and children at a local lake, Island Beach State Park, and Long Beach Island. Carol drove for Northern for more than 30 years before retiring. After retirement, she continued with her part-time job at the Chicken Coop in Columbus Farmers Market for many years. Over the years, her activities included gardening, bowling, crafting, bingo, casino trips, Longaberger basket collecting, and reading. She loved painting and wallpapering her homes. Many children in her extended family and her friends' children received a personalized handknitted Santa Claus stocking. She also enjoyed counted cross stitch and puzzles. Carol will be missed by many for her homemade tomato gravy, macaroni and cheese, and holiday cranberry apple pies. Carol requested a cremation. There will be no services held at this time. A Celebration of Life is planned for later this fall. All arrangements are under the direction of Tilghman Funeral Home, New Egypt, NJ.
