Alfreda Lillie-Jean Allen was born December 2nd, 1961, to parents Fred and Wilamina Allen. Alfreda, lovingly known as “Princess” went into foster care at the age of three months, fostered by Mary McLean until the age of 16 when Ms. McLean demised. Soon after, Alfreda met Corliss Betrand McLean at church. During Christmas, Corliss invited Alfreda to spend the holiday with her and her family. After spending two weeks with the family, Corliss, and husband Ray Betrand (deceased), made the decision to officially adopt Alfreda into their family. With that union Alfreda gained a sister, Kelcia Ottey Moore (deceased) and an entire family filled with aunts, uncles and cousins that loved and cared for her in a very special way. Corliss affectionately nick-named Alfreda, “Muffin”. Later Alfreda became the proud Aunty of Kelcia’s five beautiful children, Binah, Koss’e, Marissa, Karmalina and Daisy Moore. Alfreda attended elementary and middle schools in Amityville, New York, and later graduated from Hempstead High School in Hempstead, New York. She also attended Five Towns College in Seaford, New York. Alfreda loved church and attended Massapequa Tabernacle in Massapequa, New York, where she sang on the choir for many years. It was there that she developed special friendships with Lori Anderson (Allen), Charlotte Fields and a host of others who loved her dearly. These friendships lasted Alfreda’s entire lifetime. Lori and Alfreda (aka “Muff”) became best friends and Alfreda was later Lori’s bridesmaid in her union to husband David Allen (deceased). Everyone who knew Alfreda knew she was a “people person”, so it was no surprise that all the jobs she possessed required care and service to others. Alfreda worked at the United States Postal Service in the cafeteria, cooking and serving fellow employees. She also worked for Mayfield Nursing Home as a Caretaker, and occasionally performed private duty care for those in need, but her real love was for children. The love for a child is one of the purest loves you can possess, and Alfreda definitely had that. She never compromised the quality of love that she could offer to little ones. Although she had no biological children of her own, she had the opportunity to shower an enormous amount of love and care on Desmond, Diamond, Alasia and Lamont Sykes, children of friend Melinda Sykes, grandchildren of friend Jean Sykes. Alfreda was loved by so many. She leaves behind brothers and sisters from her natural family. Her adopted family, Mother; Corliss McLean, Uncles; Ray McLean, Frankie McLean, and Commodore McLean, Aunts; Pamela McLean, Linda McLean, and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews, including special nephew Aaron Hammond, and countless friends. She was preceded in death by Father Ray Betrand, Sister; Kelcia Ottey Moore, Uncles; Myles McLean, Julius McLean, Aunts; Maxine Graham and Barbara Easter McLean. Alfreda Lille-Jean Allen (aka; “Princess”, “Muff”, “Freda”) will be greatly missed by all.
