Robert C. Distelcamp Sr., age 93 of Cream Ridge, passed away on Monday, December 4, 2023 at Serenity Inpatient Hospice of RWJ Medical Center, Hamilton. Born in Hopelawn, NJ he resided in Elizabeth and Woodbridge for most of his life. Robert joined the US Marine Corps in 1949, proudly serving on active duty for 3 years; and 10 years as an inactive reservist. He worked as an over the road truck driver with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Union Local 701 of North Brunswick, NJ. Robert was a member of the Woodbridge Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as Lieutenant, Captain, and Chief. He was elected 3 times to serve as fire commissioner for district 1 in Woodbridge and was a lifetime member of the Woodbridge Exempt Fireman Association, the NJ State Exempt Fireman Association and the NJ Volunteer Fire Chiefs Association. Robert was a Scout Master of Troop 33 in Woodbridge for 4 years. He was a member of the Elks since 1980; serving as the Exalted Ruler of Bonita Springs, Florida, Lodge 2753 and was most recently a member of the Elks Lodge 2457 of New Egypt; a life member of the Knights of Columbus; and a member of the American Legion Post 455, New Egypt, where he was known and will be remembered as “Bingo Bob”. Predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Shirley (McLellan) in 2010; Robert is survived by his wife, Gertrude (Jones); his sons, Robert Jr. and his wife Diane of Palm Harbor, FL, and Thomas Sr. and his wife Nancy of Hightstown, NJ; his grandchildren, Robert III and wife Sonya, Tressa and her husband Shawn, Kate and husband Kevin, and Thomas Jr.; his step granddaughter, Sara; and his great grandchildren, James, Tyler, Shelby, Shane, and Sloan. Relatives and Friends are invited to attend a viewing on Monday, December 11, 2023 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm and on Tuesday, December 12, 2023 from 10:00am until 10:45am at Tilghman Funeral Home 52 Main Street New Egypt, NJ. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at 10:45am at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Brig. Gen. WC Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown.
