Please share a memory of Robert "David" to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Robert “David” Lindroth (78) died 22 April 2023 at his home in Augusta, GA, after a short illness. Born in Shawano, WI, he was the son of Robert William Lindroth of Shawano WI and Dorais M. Langill of Elm Grove, WI. While living with his maternal grandparents, he attended catholic elementary school in Elm Grove, WI and Marguette High School in Milwaukee, WI. He elected to not attend Notre Dame University as a Legacy, [his great uncle, Gus Dorais, threw the
first forward pass in college history to Knuke Rockne against Army] instead graduating from the University of Miami, FL in 1967. After graduation, he joined the US Air Force & attended Officers Candidate School. He served most of his 4-year career as Aircraft Maintenance Officer at McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey, where he met Nancy (originally from New Egypt, NJ). He left the service as a Captain. In 1971, David started his sales and management career with Proctor & Gamble Co. in Columbia, SC and later joined the Gillette Co., Safety Razor Division sales team in Charlotte, NC. He received several promotions which meant moving from Charlotte, to Atlanta, GA, to Minneapolis, MN and to Scituate, MA. He held several positions at the Gillette headquarters in Boston and was also NE
Regional Manager. In 1987, he and Nancy relocated to SC. At Savannah Lakes Village, in McCormick Co., SC, he started his career in residential real estate and witnessed the new development take shape. He held several positions including Marketing Director. In 2004, Mark Sanford, Governor of SC, “in Appreciation for Outstanding Commitment to Economic Development named David South Carolina Ambassador for Economic Development”. He served as President of the MACK (McCormick Arts Council at the Keturah) in McCormick, SC and as President of the Modoc Shores Association, Modoc, SC.
In 2005, Blanchard & Calhoun Real Estate [later Southeastern Real Estate] hired him to work at River Island, a new Conservation Community near Augusta, GA. In 2016, he retired from real estate sales but continued as point man for the rental of the RI amenities by Mercedes Benz during the Masters - a highlight of his year as he was a car guy from an early age.
He never met a stranger; liked to make people smile and laugh; loved to travel and root for his Green Bay Packers. He was always available to help our friends. He enjoyed reading and couldn’t wait for the next Grisham novel to come out. He loved vacationing at Pawley’s Island, especially when his sister could join us. He helped and supported Nancy with all of her ongoing projects. He spoiled her rotten and she let him. He was loved by all and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by Nancy Tilghman Lindroth of Augusta, GA, his wife of 53 years; his sister Kathy McMillan of Oakland Park, FL; his brother-in-law, Harold Stanley “Duke” Leedy of Burlington Co., NJ. and his wife’s great nieces and nephews. He also leaves long-time friends from his youth: Pat Sullivan, Dan Schreiber; Don Treis; Dave Scheu and godchildren: Heather Beaupre MacDonald, Christopher and Joshua Petersen, and Jennifer Petersen Thornberry; Gillette friends and Special Modoc friends; and his very important chosen Augusta family. He was preceded in death by an infant son; his maternal grandparents Lloyd C Langill and Flora M Dorais of Elm Grove, WI and Pompano Beach, FL; his mother and stepfather William McMillan of Pompano Beach, FL; and paternal grandparents Robert E Lindroth and Clara M Berton of Shawano, WI.
