George R. Saylor of North Hanover, NJ passed away peacefully on August 30, 2022 with his wife, Joan at his side. Born on February 22 in Camden, NJ, George was the son of Bernhard and Bertha Saylor. George was christened at Bethany Lutheran Church in Palmyra, NJ and active in Luther League and Boy Scouts. He graduated from Palmyra High School. Following graduation, he worked for NCR corporation repairing cash registers and other accounting equipment and enlisted in the Coast Guard Reserves attending boot camp in Cape May, NJ. He served for 6 years and was honorably discharged as a Yeoman 3 rd Class in June, 1970. He also began taking college courses at Rutgers, Camden in the evening and decided to attend college full time. He enrolled at Rider University in 1966 and being older than the typical freshman student was able to secure employment on campus as a dorm proctor and then as a dorm master. He was a member of the Theta Chi fraternity and through campus activities met the young woman, Joan Nesenkar, who would later become his wife. Upon graduation from Rider in 1970 with a BS in Commerce, he returned to NCR, now in the sale force of electronic accounting equipment which was the forerunner of computer equipment. On October 16, 1971, he married his college sweetheart, Joan. In 1973, George left NCR and joined Owens Corning Fiberglas, selling fiberglass insulation, window systems and other products. During his decades long career, he won several awards for his performance including the Pinnacle Award, Sales Builder Club and Pacesetters Award. He enjoyed learning building systems and became certified by Owens Corning as an Energy Design Consultant. He enjoyed discussing construction and energy efficient with whoever was interested and designed his own home in North Hanover using his knowledge from his training with Owens Corning. George enjoyed adventure travel and being outdoors with nature. George and Joan’s travels took them to the high Arctic where they kayaked around icebergs and saw numerous polar bears, the Galapagos where they snorkeled with small penguins darting through the waters, and Baja Mexico, where they petted baby gray whales. Other travels took them across the Aleutian Islands to Kamchatka, Russia and hiking in Siberia. George enjoyed sailing and was a bareboat charter captain. Over the course of 20 years, he captained 30 to 55 feet sailboats in Maine, Cape Cod, Chesapeake, and US and British Virgin Islands. His crew consisted of first mate, Joan and friends who would accompany them on these trips. The last several years of sailing was on 35 foot sailboats in the British Virgin Islands with just his wife as crew. As an active member of the Yacht Club of Sea Isle City, George served on the sailing committee for many years and started the “kayak gang” to teach adults how to kayak and explore and navigate the back bays of Sea Isle. George and Joan spent time at their Spinnaker Condominium in Sea Isle where George served on the Board of Directors for over 20 years and on numerous committees involving maintenance and construction projects. George is survived by his wife, Joan, sister-in-law Carol Skubik and husband Bob, niece, Christine Gugliotta, nephew, David Skubik , several grand nieces and nephews, and cousins. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service for George on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 at 11:00am at the Lake View Memorial Park 1300 Route 130 N. Cinnaminson, NJ
