David Patrick Mains, age 66, of Browns Mills, passed away on Saturday, April 2, at home. Born in Pasadena, CA, David was a lifelong resident of Neptune, NJ moving to Browns Mills in 2016.
David was a professional bass player and recording artist with many bands at the Jersey Shore. They included Society, Tommy Straight, Same Day World, Psychopop, DMX, Entropy, Lipman and the Lips, Urban Buffalos, Same Day World, Dark Heart, Leaving Trains, and The Trouble Dolls, a group he toured with nationally. During Dave's career, he worked for Vaccaro Guitars building and tuning guitars, such as Eddie Van Halen’s guitar. He then worked for Kramer Guitars. Dave also headed up the family-owned guitar business named Damila, which also specialized in guitar pedals.
Dave also played on various albums such as Heshy Rosenwasser's Exile2: Jersey Shore Baby (track #5, “Coda”). The song also appears on the “Soul In Exile Redux” release, track #4, “Exile Detour /Coda”. A second album he performed on was “The Trouble Dolls- Baby Who”. His most recent projects before his death were creating albums for the Net Six prog band and the new Same Day World (formerly It’s Joanie’s Fault).
He took part in many public events: he was the emcee in the 1990s at an FM 106.3 Giveaway Event in Long Branch, was the emcee at the very first Asbury Park Music Awards in 1993, then again in 1995. He also did many charity events and music festivals to help promote local Shore bands.
He was an electronics specialist, working most recently for Micro-Air in Allentown. He was also a master carpenter and furniture builder.
David was a loving husband, and friend to many. David is survived by his loving wife of 3 years, Carol Kingsolver; his daughter Melissa Gillespie (Kevin); stepchildren Richard, Autumn and Rachael Rainwater; granddaughter Anna Rose Gillespie, and 3 step-grandchildren, Jeydan, Rose, and Xavier Rainwater; his brother Larry, (Kathleen), and their children Tom and Lois; and brother Michael (Cathy) and their children Issac, Michael, Danny and Olivia.
Viewing will be on Friday, April 8 from 11am until 1pm at Tilghman Funeral Home 52 Main Street New Egypt, NJ 08533 with a service at 1pm in the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Jacobstown Baptist Cemetery, Jacobstown.
