Richard Edward Evans, age 59, passed away February 3, 2021 at the West Side House Long Term Head Trauma Facility in Worcester, MA after a brave battle with cancer. He was born September 24, 1961 in Bourne Massachusetts to Richard and Mary Elizabeth Evans. His father, Richard, was an Air Force Recruiting Officer and was stationed to Naha Air Force Base in Okinawa and eventually to McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey in 1967. The Evans family, including Dick and his wife Mary Elizabeth, Richie and his sisters, Darlene, Robin and Georgeanna lived on the base for 3 years before moving to Spartan Village in Wrightstown for 5 years and eventually settling in a home in nearby Jacobstown, NJ. Richie spent his young life attending school in Okinawa and eventually New Jersey. As a young man he also helped his Mom and Dad at their family business, a Carvel Ice Cream store in Wrightstown, which they opened in 1970. When he was fourteen years old Richie suffered the devastating loss of his mother Mary Elizabeth who succumbed to cancer at the age of 42. He continued to live at home in Jacobstown before sharing an apartment in Mount Holly, NJ with his sisters Robin and Georgeanna. He would eventually purchase a house, at the age of 19, in Browns Mills, NJ. As a young man, Richie developed a talent for working on dirt bikes, car engines and anything else mechanical that he could get his hands on. He enrolled and graduated from the Burlington County Vo-Tech Center where he studied welding. After graduating he gained employment as a welder in the South Jersey Area. In his personal life, Richie enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He had a love for animals and was a huge fan of the rock group Genesis. When Richie was just 25 years old, his life was changed forever. Always being a person who would do anything to help anyone in need, Richie intervened in an altercation where a young woman was being assaulted by several men. As he was trying to help, he sustained a devastating blow to his head. He was transported to the Medical Center in Mount Holly NJ where he suffered a brain aneurysm resulting in permanent brain damage. After being released from the hospital the Evans family, led by eldest sibling Darlene, banded together to care for Richie. He lived for a year at Darlene’s house in Jackson, NJ. Because he required 24 hour a day care, multiple family members devoted time to help care for him at Darlene’s home and road trips to restaurants or other outings. It became apparent, however, that Richie would require professional care for the rest of his life. Beginning in 1988, he was admitted to various head trauma facilities as they became available and had the best care options for his condition. These ranged from locations in New York state to Massachusetts. Richie was preceded in death by his Mother Mary Elizabeth Schmidt Evans (1976), his Father Richard Evans (1992) and his Sister Robin Evans Lotierzo (2001). He is survived by his sister Darlene Lewis and husband Joe, his sister Georgeanna Cieslikowski and husband Bob, his Brothers in law Tony Lotierzo and Ken Jorgensen and his wife Kathy. Niece Kimberly Ramos, her husband Ray and their children Ray, Julia and JC. Niece Stephanie Kaszuba, her husband Steve and their son Henry. Niece Mary Elizabeth Kurz, her husband Joe and their children Jak and Ellie. Nephew Anthony Lotierzo and his son Anthony. Nephew Casey Cieslikowski, his wife Beth and their daughter Amelia. Nephew Cody Cieslikowski and his wife Alexis. Richie’s life was taken from him too soon. Not from cancer but from a senseless act of violence that never gave him the chance to fully blossom. To enjoy life to the fullest. To dance and sing. To laugh and cry. To work and prosper. Together we pray that God takes Richie in his arms and welcomes him into paradise where there will be no sorrow, no weeping or pain, just the fullness of peace and joy forever and ever. A private funeral for family members only will be held at Tilghman Funeral Home on February 13, 2021.
