William R. Challender, age 68, lifetime resident of New Egypt, passed away at Deborah Heart and Lung Center in Browns Mills. Bill was born in Trenton, NJ to the late Kenneth and Vera (Baylies) Challender on August 26, 1951. He worked as an IT specialist at NJ Challenge Program at Fort Dix. Bill proudly served in the Air Force for 34 years, was and X-ray tech at Virtua Memorial Hospital in Mt. Holly and CentraState Medical Center in Freehold. He also was a former member ot the New Egypt First Aid and New Egypt Vol. Fire Co., along with Jacobstown Fire Co. and was a part time New Egypt Police patrolman. Bill was a member of the American Legion Post 455 in New Egypt, the AMVETS, and the VFW. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, cousin, and friend that will be deeply missed. Bill was predeceased by his parents. He leaves behind his wife of 43 years, Doris Jean of New Egypt; his son, Kenneth Challender II of Wrightstown; his daughter, Jessica Ricciardelli and husband Michael of New Egypt; his step-daughter, Jeanine Blake of Howell; seven grandchildren; a step-grandson; a step-great-grand daughter; his sister and brother-in- law, Joan Blanda and Hal Ketterer of New Egypt, and many cousins. Due to current restrictions, funeral services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bill’s memory to American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org) or to the Deborah Hospital Foundation (www.deborahfoundation.org/donate). All arrangements are under the direction of the Tilghman Funeral Home located at 52 Main Street, New Egypt, NJ 08533.
