George J. Gomes, age 82, of Cookstown died Sunday, April 6 at Virtua Memorial Hospital in Mt. Holly. He was born in Brooklyn, NY he was a resident of New York, Missouri and New Jersey. Mr. Gomes worked as a photo engraver for the Daily News in New York City, retiring in 1976. George was a veteran of the US Navy, serving on the USS Logic and USS PC-1193 in 1944. He was pre-deceased by his wife, Gladys Gomes; his son, Richard Gomes and his grandson, Mark Simmons. George is survived by his children and their spouses; Caren & Robert J. Schmidt, Jr. of Cookstown, Diane & Marty McIntosh of Braymer, MO and Laurie Williams and Joseph Gomes, both of Independence, MO; his grandchildren, Sherri Ellison, Jimmy Simmons, Kevin McLean, Carl Schmidt, Eric Schmidt, Megan Schmidt, Steven Simmons, Rebecca Dunkel Knecht, Dennis Dunkel, Callie Dunkel, Alexis McIntosh and Andrew McIntosh; twelve great grandchildren and his sister, Ann Malhado of Glen Cove, NY. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 10 at 10:30 AM at the Chapel of the BGWCD Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 350 Provinceline Road in Wrightstown. There are no calling hours. Due to cemetery restrictions on flowers, memorial contributions in George?s memory may be made to the Animal Adoption Center, P. O. Box 4017, Lindenwold, NJ 08021.
