Obituary of James H. Schroeder
James “Jim” H. Schroeder, age 86, a lifelong resident of New Egypt, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, August 9, 2019. He was born in Trenton, NJ, on August 19, 1932. After high school, Jim enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Korean War as a Military Police Officer stationed in Germany. Jim was very involved within his community for many years. He was on the Plumsted Township Committee for over 22 years, 10 in which he served as Mayor of New Egypt. He was also an active and devoted member of the Plumsted Township Board of Fire Commissioners, PMUA, the Plumsted Branch-Ocean County Library and the New Egypt Historical Society. In his free time, Jim loved to golf. He was one of the original co-founders of Hanover Country Club and at one point held a membership on three golf leagues. Above anything else, Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Jim is predeceased by his parents; his wife of over 44 years, Nancy Schroeder (Townsend); and by his son Jamie Schroeder.
He leaves behind two children, Gregg Schroeder of North Hanover NJ and Susan Schroeder of Hainesport NJ; his granddaughter Abigail Schroeder and her boyfriend Jason Irby of VA; his longtime companion Nancy Cory of Clinton NJ; brother Bob Bayliff of OR; and many dear friends and acquaintances.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather on Tuesday, August 13, 2019, from 5PM to 8PM at the Tilghman Funeral Home, located at 52 Main Street, New Egypt NJ 08533. Burial will take place privately at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jim’s memory to the New Egypt Historical Society, 125 Evergreen Road, New Egypt NJ 08533 or t the New Egypt First Aid Squad, 32 Brynmore Road, New Egypt, NJ 08533.
