Mr. Robert E. Gokey, of Wrightstown, NJ passed away on December 1, 2015, at the age of 97. Robert was born to parents Frederick and Mary Gokey in Elizabeth, NJ on January 21, 1918. He grew up as the youngest of five children. In 1941, he married Ruth “Pinky” Robinson and the couple had three children. Robert served during WWII as a Left Waist Gunner on the B17 Lady Velma. The crew of Lady Velma completed 31 missions in the European Theatre; a tremendous accomplishment during a very turbulent time. He was a very proud veteran and later in life enjoyed speaking about his experiences during the war. Robert had employment at various companies such as Standard Oil/Exxon and became a skilled machinist and tool and die maker. He loved music and we could always expect him to sing at any given moment. He also loved to tell stories and jokes. Robert was a member of the Knights of Columbus. The Knights were near and dear to his heart and he cherished the friendships and the support he was given through their organization. Robert is survived by his two sons, Robert and his wife Patricia of Wrightstown NJ and William and his wife Karen of Ormond Beach FL; his daughter, Judith Livermore of Milford NJ; nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Ruth “Pinky” Gokey, his adored wife, passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2017. A Memorial Mass will be held for both Robert and Ruth on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 10:00AM at the Church of the Assumption Chapel, located at 76 Evergreen Road, New Egypt, NJ 08533. Inurnment will follow at the Brig. General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery on Monday, March 20, 2017 at 11:00AM.
