JEANNETTE BOWERS Columbus, NJ resident Jeannette Bowers, (Born September 12, 1917), of Columbus, died at home on November 27, 2011. Born in Trenton, she lived in Sykesville, New Jersey for 50+ years before moving to Columbus in 2003. After raising two children, Jeannette became the first female registered municipal clerk in the State of New Jersey in 1968 when she was elected North Hanover Township Clerk, a position she held for sixteen years before retiring in 1984. Former President of the Burlington County Municipal Clerks Association, Jeannette dedicated much of her time to various organizations in the township including the North Hanover Township Senior Citizens group who honored her in 1989 by naming The Jeannette Bowers Community Center in her honor. Jeannette was a member and former Sunday School Teacher of the Sykesville Presbyterian Church where she often played the organ and sang solos during the services. Predeceased by her husband, John T. Bowers, Jeannette is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and John P. Biedka of Sicklerville, as well as by her son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Cindy Bowers of Florence Township. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 1st at 11:00 a.m. at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street in New Egypt with Rev. William Walker officiating. Interment will follow in North Crosswicks Cemetery in Crosswicks, N.J. Calling hours will be on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 am. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the North Hanover Township Senior Citizens, 41 Schoolhouse Road, Jacobstown, N.J. 08562. ?
