Mary M. (nee Worrell) Lucas, age 87, of Bremerton, WA died Tuesday, October 18 in Bremerton. Born in Vincentown, NJ, she lived in the area before moving to Bremerton in 2005 to be near her son and his family.
Mary graduated from Mt. Holly High School and married James A. Lucas of Pemberton in 1946. She helped to support her family by working at the Mt. Holly First Presbyterian Church and the Mt. Holly Herald Newspaper. Mary retired from the New Lisbon Developmental Center in 1998. She loved music, travel, family and small animals, especially cats.
Mary passed away after 4 years of exceptional, watchful care from the staff at what became her Bremerton home at Foster Meadows and Central Kitsap Adult Family Homes.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Lucas; daughters, Jane Parker and Judy Rader and sisters, Ella Worrell, Susan Smith and Lona Westefeld. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, James and Jan Lucas, Jr. of Bremerton, WA; seven grandchildren, Mary Woolly and Janette Cronin both of Wrightstown, Robine Reese of Millstone Twp., Jonel McGrady, Jamie Dunne and James Lucas III all of Washington and Danielle Street of North Carolina; 15 great grandchildren; a sister, Ethel Worrell of Florida and a brother, James Worrell of Southampton.
Graveside services for Mary will be held on Thursday, November 3 at 11:00 AM at the Jacobstown Baptist Cemetery, 49 Jacobstown-Arneytown Road in Jacobstown where she will be laid to rest next to her husband.
